The total Internet traffic circulating exclusively in the metropolitan networks has surpassed traffic moving through the Internet backbone. Smart cities, 5G wireless, and immersive multimedia applications are driving a new generation of optical networks. CIAN research is creating new low cost, high functionality photonic devices, systems, and architectures to support theses diverse applications with affordable, high capacity fiber solutions. Access & Aggregation is essential to a smoothly running Internet system. CIAN researchers pursue new technologies that will reduce bottle necks in the current Internet and allow more seamless flow of information.
